What Problems Can Veneers Correct?
At Shenandoah Family Dentistry we’ve helped many clients find and keep the “perfect” smile. We’ve done this by offering many different expert dental services—including implants, braces, teeth whitening, and regular oral maintenance. Sometimes this has also included providing our patients with dental veneers. These are thin, customized coverings of porcelain or a resin composite that are glued to the front of your teeth to improve their overall appearance.
Dental Problems Veneers Can Solve
Veneers are an efficient dental solution for many common problems. This includes discolored teeth, teeth that are worn down from rough use or uneven, gaps between their teeth, misaligned teeth, and teeth that have become chipped or have even broken.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
There are many benefits to having veneers. Chief among them is their ability to provide you with immediate results that would otherwise take you many months or years to obtain by way of traditional orthodontics. This is because veneers can help correct many dental imperfections.
Veneers are created in a way that makes them long-lasting. They’re also very resistant to stains. As such, many people are better candidates for these instead of dental crowns. However, if you don’t need the shape of your tooth changed, but you only need whiter teeth, then you should opt for tooth whitening instead. These also aren’t the best option for people who have a crooked dental arch or badly aligned teeth for which braces are the best option. Some other people who aren’t good candidates for veneers include those who grind or clench their teeth a lot, have decayed teeth, suffer from periodontal disease and aren’t committed to taking good care of them long-term.
How Veneers Work
When we install veneers in your mouth, we’ll make sure that they match the color of the rest of your teeth. We won’t need to do any extensive reshaping of your natural teeth like we would if you were getting crowns. Once the right color is chosen, and your tooth prepared, we’ll cement the veneers in place.
Maintaining Your New Veneers
You’ll need to maintain good oral hygiene, which means brushing and flossing as you would do for your natural teeth. It’s also important to maintain regular appointments with our office to have your veneers polished with a specially formulated, non-abrasive paste. This also allows us to check to make sure there’s no sign of potential failure of your veneers.
Veneers can also help make your teeth healthier. This is done by making sure they’re all the same length, realigning your bite, stabilizing any cracked or broken teeth you may have, preventing tooth decay, strengthening your weak or loose teeth, and replacing any missing teeth before they start causing you functional problems.
At Shenandoah Family Dentistry this is something we’ve done for many highly satisfied patients over the years. If you feel that you could benefit from them too, give us a call at 540-551-4455. We look forward to investigating this option to see if it’s right for your teeth and any of the issues you may be experiencing.
