Teeth grinding or clenching means that you wake up with facial pain, chipped, cracked or broken teeth and headaches. Want some help for teeth grinding that doesn't involve medication or inserts in your mouth. Keep reading. We have some ideas for you.
What is Bruxism?
Bruxism is the technical term for teeth clenching or teeth grinding at night. Often, people who clench or grind their teeth do it because of stress or anxiety. There are many remedies to combat bruxism, but many people don't like the side effects. For example, some doctors prescribe muscle relaxants to combat teeth clenching or grinding. Also, appliances are available to help relax your jaw and prevent teeth grinding and clenching. However, many people don't like wearing appliances in their mouths at night.
A Natural Alternative for Teeth Grinding
Instead of using appliances or muscle relaxants to combat teeth grinding, many people prefer to use a natural method instead. Magnesium has been shown to relax the jaw muscles and improve teeth clenching and grinding. You can take magnesium supplements to relax your jaw muscles. You can also relax your muscles by eating foods loaded with magnesium.
Examples of foods with loads of magnesium include: all leafy greens, seeds, nuts, avocados, bananas, fish, beans and whole grains. Research has shown that people need about 360mg of magnesium daily, and if you have bruxism, you may need closer to 500 mg.
However, all of the foods that contain magnesium are good for you, and you could incorporate them as part of your daily diet. Getting magnesium from natural sources means you improve your overall health as well as your dental health.
