Waterlase Dentistry

The invention of Waterlase could very well be the best innovation in dentistry yet! The majority of those who are apprehensive about visits to the dentist—and there are many—list the drilling as the main reason for their apprehension. Waterlase dentistry actually uses a combination of laser technology and water-spray to replace the drill which means that cavities, periodontal treatment and even root canals can now be done without the discomfort of the drill. The patented combination of laser-energized water (HYDROKINETIC™ energy) works by emitting a laser beam that energizes a spray of water an air with the utmost precision. Waterlase works with the same precision as a high-speed drill and therefore is able to cut through all types of tissue including bone and gum so that several dental procedures can be performed more easily and comfortably.

The discomfort felt from the drill was the result of a combination of the pressure, vibration and heat caused by the drill against the tooth’s enamel. For that reason the treatments requiring the drill also usually required the use of an anesthetic. Waterlase dentistry doesn’t cause any of that so most treatments can now be performed without any anesthetic whatsoever which is great news for all patients! Waterlase offers a precision that far surpasses that of a drill which is why patients experience little or no discomfort, less bleeding during treatments and a shorter recovery time. It is able to remove decayed tissue without harming the nearby healthy tissue and its use allows for a better filling of cavities which means longer lasting protection than ever before.

Having a dentist who has been fully trained in Waterlase dentistry means that many of the procedures that would once have required a visit to the specialist can now be taken care of right here in our office. Just as we strive to offer a comfortable experience to our patients, Waterlase dentistry was invented with the patient’s comfort in mind. Waterlase as mentioned does not cause the same painful vibration and heat that a drill does and they have also managed to create it without the loud and often annoying whining sound of the drill. There was no detail left out as far as your comfort goes. To further prove that, a study at the University of the Pacific found that 98.5 percent of patients treated with Waterlase reported no discomfort at all during treatment. This is certainly music to the ears of anyone who has ever dreaded or even feared the dentist’s drill.

If you, like many others, have put off dental treatment because of your drill anxiety then you can finally put your fears to rest for good and make a call to set up your appointment. There is no need to put off your much needed dental work any longer thanks to Waterlase dentistry.
